G-Shock GWM5610-1

G-Shock GWM5610-1 Review

Buying a watch is easy, especially if you’re not very picky nor need extra special features for your timepiece. The selection process gets a bit more complicated when you know what you want precisely in your watch or at least have a slight idea about the features it needs.

Why is Casio G-Shock such a big name in the watch market?

We’ve been using watches for some centuries now, and people within the industry have always tried to add more features on their timepieces, as people still wanted more and more.

With durability and strength being one of the main challenges for watches, it makes sense that watch professionals were keen to create a sturdy watch that would take a fall. A Casio engineer put all of his efforts into work, managing the give the world the very first watch able to take a fall back in the 80s.

The “Triple 10” principle is crucial for G-Shock watches, and they can take a 10-meter (33ft) free fall, run on a battery that lasts ten years, and present a 10-bar water resistance. Most G-Shock watches come with resistance to vibration, low-temperature, electrical shock, impact, and gravity, with 660ft water resistance being a regular feature for nowadays G-Shock watches.

The style has never been left out of site either, and G-Shock watches always have an exciting fashion. The variety of designs is impressive, as they provide analog, digital, and both analog and digital display.

Having said that, selecting your G-Shock suddenly became a lot more challenging, but it’s only for a great reason!

What’s the brief description of Casio Men’s G-Shock GWM5610-1 GD?

If you know anything about the G-Shock watches, the iconic rectangular face of the first G-Shock model may come to mind. The GWM 5610-1GD comes with the perfect case profile and a black tone. The watch resembles the first G-Shock (GW-5000), but it’s pricier as it includes more advanced features than the first model.

Looks are the first thing to notice, but its features are the one that gives its overall value. The watch comes with Tough Solar and Multi-band 6 Atomic timekeeping technology. Despite the functions, the watch has a slim, yet the pretty strong case, taking a beat.

Let’s take a look at the details!

As Tough Solar Power is a fantastic function, let’s start by talking a bit about its utility. The technology ensures energy through a small solar panel which works together with a large-capacity battery which eases the operation of the high-consuming functions.

The Multi-Band 6 Atomic Timekeeping means that the watch is going to receive radio signals throughout the day and night for improved accuracy.

Even if the GW-M 5610 doesn’t come with a stainless steel case, its resin case is also durable and features a stainless steel back plate. There are four screws in the plate, holding it in place and increasing its durability.

The mineral dial ensures clarity for the display and has a low risk for scratching, with a red surround and white/blue, and yellow accents on the face. Some may find it a bit busier than the monochromatic versions.

The watch is thin, lightweight, and has just the right size for a rugged watch. You may ideally wear it under some long sleeves thanks to its slim profile.

The clarity of the digits on the positive LCD screen is crisp, and the watch is easy to read in all light conditions. Even if the auto backlight duration isn’t customizable, it gives the light you need for variously lit conditions.

The function buttons are somewhat protected on the side of the case, and they’re rather easy to press. Stopwatch, the World Time (29 time zones and 48 cities), and other functions are rather easy to operate.  The watch also includes city code display, countdown timer, 1/100-second stopwatch, and full auto-calendar.

You may set 5 daily alarms, but you may pay attention to the sound alert. It seems that it’s not the loudest sound alarm out there.

As it’s solar powered, the battery may run for ten months on a full charge, with no exposure to light during the ten months. Anyway, you can always check the battery level indicator on the dial and see how much longer is it going to run. The power-saving function sure helps with expanding the lifespan of the battery, though.

The build of the watch is just as impressive as in other G-Shock watches. The watch has 660ft water resistance, and you can confidently use it for professional marine activities or professional-grade water sports. It’s best that you don’t put it to the test with a scuba diving session.

What do we like the most about the watch? Is there something we want less?

At a glance, the watch is the Jack of all trades so here are the best things:

G-Shock GWM5610-1 review

  • It includes Solar Power and Multi-Band 6 Timekeeping
  • It’s dependable, accurate, and comfortable to wear
  • It has a slim profile, and it’s lightweight
  • It’s water resistant up to 660ft
  • It’s easy to read even in dim light

Bells and whistles aside, here are the basic issues:

  • Not everyone is going to find the Atomic sync easy to use
  • Some think that the LCD is challenging to read in the sun

Tough to the nails, the GWM 5610-GD is always a reliable option, considering its overall value, features, build, looks and, needless to say, affordable price.

What about the other two models within the series?

   1. G-Shock GW-M5610-1BJF

If you’re into the negative display, you should take a look at the Casio Men’s G-Shock GW-M5610-1BJF.

   2. G-Shock Tough Solar GW-M5610BC-1JF

Casio G-Shock Tough Solar GW-M5610BC-1JF.

Apart from the negative display, the two models come with the same abilities, designs, features, and overall performance as the GWM 5610-1-GD. The watches come with Tough Solar Power, Multi-Band 6 Timekeeping. They’re 660ft water resistant and perform the same functions as the GWM 5610-1GD.

You’re going to find the price for both models higher than the one of GWM 5610-1 GD, and it’s only on the cause of the looks. Black on black always looks cooler.

A final suggestion

When you’re thinking about buying a G-Shock, it’s not about if it’s going to worth it or not. But about which one is going to need your needs and budget the best way. There’s so many fish in the sea, sort to speak!
